Welcome, New Students!

You've been admitted to the University of Utah. Now what?

  1. Create or log in to your Campus Information Services (CIS) account.
If you are a new student, log in to cis.utah.edu using the university ID (UNID) included in your admissions letter and default password (which is your birthdate in MMDDYY format). Here is where you will register for classes, pay tuition, view grades, and more. Official U communications will go to your UMail.

  2. Learn about and apply for scholarships and financial aid.
Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) to be considered for grants, loans, and work-study. Visit the Scholarships and Financial Aid website to learn more and to apply for scholarship opportunities. Deadlines and requirements will vary.

  3. Confirm your intent to enroll.
To save your spot at the U, confirm your intent to enroll and pay the non-refundable enrollment deposit. The deposit counts toward your first-semester tuition. If the deposit is a financial burden, you may be eligible for an Enrollment Deposit Extension.

See more information on the Enrollment Deposit and extension requests.

  4. Register for orientation.
Once you've confirmed your intent to enroll, register for the UOnline orientation, where you'll receive information about online learning and get connected with an academic advisor so you can register for classes.

  5. Register for classes. Your advisor will help you select the courses you need, and you will register through  Campus Information Services (CIS). If you aren't sure how to use the registration system, you can see tutorials here

  6. Submit proof of immunizations.
Even if you never intend to come to campus, immunization records are required of all University of Utah students. Learn more about the Immunization Requirements.

  7. Purchase textbooks. To find the required textbook list for your class schedule, sign in to Campus Information Services, click on the "Registration" tile on your Student Homepage, click on the “Class Schedule” link, and then click on the "Buy Your Textbooks Online" icon.

  8. Start classes.
UOnline courses are held in Canvas. Instructors may open classes prior to the first day of the term, but most will make them "live" at the start of the semester. Be sure to review the course syllabus for key pieces of information, such as how to get in touch with the instructor and deadlines for exams and assignments.

  9. Pay tuition and fees.
Visit the calendar on the Registrar’s Office site to determine course dates and the tuition deadline. You may pay online through the CIS portal.
